2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Wins Truck of the Year
For the third consecutive year, Ford has won the North American Truck of the Year title from NACTOY, this time with their all-new all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck. This award marks Ford’s fifth NACTOY award in the last three years, demonstrating the company’s commitment to producing high-quality vehicles, whether powered by gasoline, hybrid, or electricity.
Jim Farley, the President and CEO of Ford, expressed his delight at the news and praised his team for their hard work in building and delivering as many Lightnings as possible. He also announced that production will be ramped up to a 150,000 run rate this fall, with an ongoing focus on improving every aspect of the truck.
The F-150 Lightning has been the best-selling electric truck in the United States since its introduction in May 2022, with over 15,000 sales. This has helped Ford become the second-largest electric vehicle automaker in the U.S. for 2022, as they continue to expand their range of electric vehicles, such as the Mustang Mach-E SUV and eTransit cargo van.
Karl Brauer, a NACTOY juror and freelance journalist for Forbes, praised the F-150 Lightning for its combination of the standard truck’s dimensions with substantial upgrades to areas like storage and mobile power support, making it appealing to both traditional and new-to-the-segment truck customers.
The 50 journalists from across North America selected this year’s winner based on several criteria, including innovation, design, value, safety, performance, technology, user experience, and driver satisfaction. To qualify, vehicles must be new or substantially changed for the new model year.
